Designworx: On Colour - Neutrals

The quiet environment of nature is reflected in this huge palette.

Neutral schemes are most often monochromatic schemes,  working with a single colour or hue to create harmonious environments.

When working with a neutral scheme, consider other elements such as texture found in fabric, metallic finishes, or bold accents. There is no need for a neutral scheme to be bland, as so often seen.

A purely neutral colour scheme is made up of white, greys, and black.
It can also contain browns, as well as mixtures of all of the above, including cream and beige. If you are using browns, make sure you have enough light, otherwise they can look muddy.

You won't find neutral colours on the colour wheel but most of them are not
entirely 'neutral' either - they carry a hint of colour. They go beautifully with more saturated colours.
